Dübendorf ZH/Santa Monica – Loft Dynamics has received qualification for the USA for its virtual reality (VR)-based flight simulator. The simulator has also been approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency.
According to a press release, Loft Dynamics has received FAA qualification for its VR simulator for pilot education and training from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This makes it the first VR simulator with FAA qualification. This is a critical step in providing advanced flight simulation technology to pilots and operators across the United States in response to the growing demand for pilots. The FAA qualification also cements the role of virtual reality in the future of American pilot training. Outside of the U.S., Loft Dynamics is the first and only VR simulator to be approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). "The unprecedented qualification of our technology by the FAA and EASA underscores the safety and realism of VR for pilot training," said Fabi Riesen, founder and CEO of Loft Dynamics.
The FAA evaluated Loft Dynamics' VR simulator using the Airbus-approved H125 VR at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. The H125 VR simulator features a full-size virtual cockpit, 360-degree panoramic view and flight modeling that accurately simulates flight images, movements and scenarios. The FAA has installed simulators from Loft Dynamics at its William J. Hughes Technical Center (WHTC) in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The FAA is using the simulator to conduct vertical flight safety research and to train hundreds of test pilots on the simulator, according to the statement. Loft Dynamics, which has a branch in Santa Monica, California, develops flight simulators as well as special vertical take-off and landing simulations for helicopters. ce/gba
