Ascento announces launch of new guard robot

Zurich – According to manufacturer Ascento, the new Guard 2.0 autonomous security robot has five times better all-round visibility than its predecessor, twice the battery life, is 10 percent lighter, more compact and more durable. It was designed for monitoring critical company areas.

Ascento announces the market launch of its Guard 2.0 autonomous security robot, according to a press release. The robotics start-up has developed it for large environments such as data centers, production facilities and office complexes. According to a press release, its technologies are based on six years of development work that began at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH). Ascento was founded as a spin-off in February 2023.

The young company cites a number of improvements over the previous model. According to the report, the integrated cameras and three times brighter headlights offer "excellent night vision". People are recognized at twice the distance, at the sides and rear even at five times the distance. The thermal imaging camera has a 160 percent higher resolution.

The battery life has been almost doubled from four to up to eight hours. The robot can recharge quickly. It is also said to be 10 percent lighter, more compact, more durable and better equipped for extreme weather conditions.

Use cases also include checking fencing and lighting, detecting thermal anomalies and checking parking lots, windows and doors. The Guard 2.0 can also detect flood and storm damage.

According to Ascento, it has doubled its robot fleet in the past three months. By the end of the year, the company expects growth to be five times higher than in the previous year. By the end of the year, their robots will be patrolling over 6500 kilometers a month. Last year, Ascento raised 4.3 million dollars and is "well on the way to quintupling this sum by the end of the year". ce/mm
