Scanvio acquires 150,000 Swiss francs from Venture Kick

Zurich/Schlieren ZH – Zurich-based medtech Scanvio has secured 150,000 Swiss francs in support from Venture Kick. The spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich intends to use the fresh money to further develop its ultrasound platform for diagnosing endometriosis.

(CONNECT) The Zurich-based medtech company Scanvio has been able to acquire 150,000 Swiss francs from the Schlieren-based start-up promoter Venture Kick. According to a press release, the company, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), intends to use the fresh money to improve its artificial intelligence (AI)-based ultrasound diagnostics for endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a painful uterine disease that affects around 10 percent of women of childbearing age worldwide. The current standard diagnostic procedure is invasive laparoscopic. It is complex and expensive and in many cases is only used after many years of pain.

With the method developed by Scanvio, diagnostics can be performed during routine transvaginal sonography. To further increase diagnostic reliability, Scanvio intends to use the acquired support to refine the assistant and add more AI-supported ultrasound images. The next step is to prepare the product for CE marking and approval by the Food and Drug Administration for the US market.

“Venture Kick was a crucial partner on our journey. The structured process and tight timelines helped us to sharpen our strategy, define our value proposition more clearly and engage with customers at an early stage,” Stefan Tuchschmid, CEO of Scanvio, is quoted in the press release. Winning the 150,000 francs is “more than just financial support – it confirms our vision of making expert sonography accessible to a wide range of users”. ce/eb
