Zurich/Copenhagen – Verity has optimized its autonomous inventory drones in a pilot project with sporting goods manufacturer On and container shipping company Maersk. The Verity system has been expanded to include wireless functions. This allows it to track stock levels even without visual contact.
(CONNECT) In a pilot project with On and Maersk from Copenhagen, Verity has added Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) functions to its autonomous inventory management system. According to a statement from Verity, the joint vision of the three companies was aimed at "inventory transparency that comes close to operational omniscience". On and Maersk have been using Verity's autonomous inventory drones since 2024 and 2023 respectively.
Until now, the system was only able to detect what it could also perceive visually. The integration of RDID has reportedly eliminated this limitation. As a result, the Verity system extends its visibility beyond boxes, enabling the precise identification and tracking of individual items at every stage of goods handling.
This could create "a true digital warehouse twin": "By combining AI, autonomous data collection on a large scale and RFID, we are closing the gap between the digital and physical worlds and ensuring complete transparency in supply chains," Verity CEO and co-founder Raffello D'Andrea is quoted as saying.
In contrast to other RFID systems in warehouse environments, Verity also believes that its solution does not require "bottleneck solutions like Gates": "In the fast-moving world of supply chains and warehousing, true transparency requires a mobile, agile and autonomous reader." Verity delivered this as part of the pilot project with On and Maersk.
"We are excited to push the boundaries of what is possible in logistics through this pilot project with Verity and Maersk," On co-founder Caspar Coppetti is quoted as saying. "This exploration of innovative solutions allowed us to test and evaluate new ways to increase efficiency and transparency in our supply chain." ce/mm
