Zurich/Singapore/Exeter – Climeworks has signed contracts with the short video platform TikTok and the British rum manufacturer Two Drifters for the permanent removal of CO2 from the air. What is new is that Climeworks also offers customized portfolios for this purpose.
(CONNECT) Climeworks will remove 5100 tons of CO2 from the air for TikTok as part of a multi-year partnership. To achieve this, the Zurich-based company not only uses its technology to capture CO2 directly from the air, but also biochar and reforestation.
According to a press release, Climeworks now also offers such diversified portfolios for CO2 removal. CCO Adrian Siegrist describes it as the new norm: "Carbon removal may be immaterial, but its financial impact will be seen in black and white on the balance sheets of companies aiming for net zero."
TikTok has carefully examined several providers, Ian Gill, Global Head of Sustainability at TikTok, is quoted as saying. In the end, Climeworks "provided a solution that meets our highest standards and fits perfectly with our sustainability strategy of climate neutrality by 2030".
Two Drifters Distillery has been working with Climeworks since 2020. The British rum producer has now also signed a contract with Climeworks to remove a further 1067 tons of CO2 from the air by 2032. Climeworks points out that the distillery includes the cost of CO2 removal directly in its cost price: "The more CO2 we avoid through sustainable practices, the greater our profit margins become," says co-founder Dr. Russ Wakeham, explaining this approach.
For small and medium-sized companies, Climeworks refers to its online self-service platform for CO2 removal, which was the first of its kind in the world in 2019. For example, the pharmaceutical company ten23 health and the web design company 118Group recently purchased CO2 removal there in order to reduce their environmental impact. According to Climeworks, a total of 21,000 customers have made use of this self-service platform since its launch. ce/mm
