Winterthur/Hamburg – The Hamburg fire department has been using two electric ambulances from Flux Mobility in test operation for a month now. The vehicles, which are specially adapted for the customer, are stationed at various fire and rescue stations, each with different requirements.
(CONNECT) Two fully electric ambulances from Flux Mobility have been in test operation at the Hamburg Fire Department for a month now. According to a press release from the Winterthur-based company, it is one of the first major fire departments in Germany to take the step towards electromobility. As the specialist for electric commercial vehicles explains further, the two ambulances were developed in collaboration with the German manufacturer Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeuge specifically for the high demands of the rescue service.
In order to test their suitability for everyday use, the vehicles will be stationed at several fire and rescue stations in a trial run lasting up to two years, both in densely built-up inner city districts and in the port area with its special logistical challenges and in rural peripheral zones with longer access routes.
The advantages of Flux's electric ambulances include their zero emissions, long range and fast charging thanks to their 12 kilowatt-hour battery with DC charging option. In addition, the company cites its robust chassis for high payloads and safe road holding. And finally, their quiet operation ensures less stress for sick people and emergency services. According to the company, its customers include several of the largest municipal companies in Switzerland and Germany.
"Our fully electrically powered emergency vehicles are an important step towards an even more powerful and future-proof Hamburg fire department," said Jörg Sauermann, head of the department. "We are proud to put these vehicles, which have been specially adapted for Hamburg, into operation. This project shows that modern drive technology offers numerous advantages for emergency response in a major city. "ce/mm
