u-blox introduces new Bluetooth module

Thalwil ZH – Semiconductor manufacturer u-blox announces the launch of the ANNA-B5 Bluetooth LE module. The ultra-compact module has an integrated antenna, a powerful microcontroller and distance measurement functions.

(CONNECT) Semiconductor specialist u-blox in Thalwil has developed a new module for use in low-energy devices with Bluetooth wireless connections. According to the press release, the ANNA-B5 series with various versions has been developed for small, battery-powered applications. The module, which measures just 6.5 × 6.5 millimeters, offers robust performance in the areas of industrial automation, smart home/smart building, healthcare, asset tracking and a variety of other segments.

With its security features, including physical tamper detection, secure boot, secure storage and a crypto accelerator, it meets the requirements of PSA Certified Level 3, meaning that the system is protected against significant software and hardware attacks.

The compact size of the module with a fully integrated antenna makes it suitable for a wide range of devices, according to u-blox. Its compatibility with other u-blox modules enables effortless technology migration, for example when switching to the latest generation of Bluetooth LE modules. LE stands for Low Energy. The ANNA-B5 series reduces costs, enables faster time-to-market and seamless international deployment, it continues.

The ANNA-B5 module contains a SOC or state of charge indicator from the Norwegian manufacturer Nordic Semiconductor. It contains a microcontroller from the British manufacturer Arm Ltd. in Cambridge with 128 MHz, 256 kB RAM and 1.5 MB non-volatile memory. Optimised for extremely low power consumption, the module is ideal for applications that require a longer battery life, according to the u-blox press release. ce/gba
