Niatsu optimizes emission detection with satellite data

Zurich – Niatsu GmbH is optimizing its artificial intelligence-supported tool for recording emissions in agriculture. The start-up can now also use data from the European Space Agency (ESA) for this purpose.

(CONNECT) The Zurich-based start-up Niatsu can optimize its tool for recording emissions along the food supply chain, which was developed in 2023 and is supported by artificial intelligence (AI). According to a statement, it will have access to earth observation data from the European SpaceAgency (ESA). High-resolution satellite images from the ESA are integrated into the Niatsu program, allowing agricultural cultivation areas and transport routes to be clearly tracked. The data obtained is also adapted in climate models. Food producers can use Niatsu's tools to find out exactly where emissions are being generated in their supply chain. With the version optimized by satellite images, greater climate transparency can be achieved for producers.

"Many CO2 balances are based on average values, we rely on real data. The collaboration with ESA allows us to calculate new climate data globally. This is a game changer for anyone who is serious about making their value chains climate-friendly and wants to better understand their risks," Jakob Tresch, CTO of Niatsu, is quoted as saying in the press release. ce/ww
