World first: First mixed reality flight simulator takes off

BRUNNER, an innovative Swiss engineering company based in Hittnau and known for high-precision simulation solutions, has reached a global milestone: NOVASIM MR DA42 is the first and only FNPT II mixed reality flight simulator qualified to EASA standards.

The NOVASIM MR DA42 from BRUNNER has been developed with the latest image generation and motion technologies to provide a new level of immersion, realism and efficiency in professional pilot training. It's not about technology for its own sake - it's about solving the real challenges of modern training environments: limited space, changing training requirements and the need to train highly competent and safety-conscious pilots.

The exceptionally precise mixed reality display is made possible by the VITAL 1150 IG l and the Varjo XR-4 Focal Edition headset, which offers a breathtaking 360° field of view of the virtual world. At the same time, the video passthrough allows pilots to operate the real cockpit - including maps or electronic flight manuals - as if they were sitting in the real aircraft. Procedures, processes and visual cues are experienced in an environment that is both immersive and physically realistic. This significantly strengthens muscle memory, situational awareness and the overall transferability of the skills learned to real flights.

In addition, the NOVASIM enables the complete execution of various training procedures, including pre-flight checks, taxi phases, take-off and landing - a decisive step towards future-oriented, skills-based training.

What makes the BRUNNER NOVASIM truly unique is that it requires no compromises. The simulator is fully qualified for professional use so that certified training can be carried out in an immersive mixed reality environment - with all the advantages of cost efficiency, realism and high learning effectiveness. Instructors can switch training scenarios at lightning speed, while learners benefit from intuitive and engaging training that is perfectly aligned with competency-based training frameworks.

This achievement reflects BRUNNER's central philosophy: Dedication & Innovation - the conviction that real progress comes from precision, commitment and courage. The FNPT II qualification of the NOVASIM as a generic multi-engine piston simulator under special conditions includes the use of a head-mounted display (HMD) and the BRUNNER Motion System.

This milestone was only possible thanks to the trust, expertise and close cooperation with our valued partners, says CEO Roger Klingler: Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland, Varjo and the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).

With NOVASIM, BRUNNER is redefining how pilots learn, practise and prepare. Developed by a great team in Switzerland, shaped by real training needs and driven by dedication & innovation, BRUNNER sets a new benchmark for worldwide pilot training with the NOVASIM MR DA42.
