Zurich/Murten FR/Osaka – The UZH Blockchain Center has recreated the main building of the University of Zurich (UZH) in the metaverse for the virtual part of the real World Expo 2025 in Osaka. METAPEACE invites real Nobel Prize winners to give lectures that provide answers to global problems.
(CONNECT) The Blockchain Center of the University of Zurich (UZH) and METAPEACE invite five living Nobel Laureates to the Metaverse on the occasion of the Virtual World Expo 2025. To this end, the UZH Blockchain Center, headed by Claudio Tessone, has created a digital twin of its university auditorium, according to a UZH report. These Nobel Talks are organized together with METAPEACE. The non-profit association based in Murten promotes science and technology as pillars of peace, preferably in the Metaverse.
On May 19, Takaaki Kajita from Japan, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2015, gave a lecture on neutrinos and the mystery of the universe. On June 19, Eric Maskin from the USA, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2007, spoke about the mechanism design theory. Other speakers until October include ETH physics professor and 2019 Nobel Laureate Didier Queloz, Swiss entomologist and winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize Hans Rudolf Herren and Israeli winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Aaron Ciechanover.
The UZH Blockchain Center has contributed the digital twins of the auditorium and the entire UZH main building to Switzerland's virtual appearance at the Virtual World Expo 2025. This is accessible in an app that complements the physical world exhibition. It will take place in the Japanese city of Osaka until October 13, 2025.
The digital twins created by the UZH Blockchain Center will be used beyond the World Expo. “We are building up these assets for the long term anyway,” Tessone is quoted as saying. “We will continue to develop it for other purposes and expand the blockchain features.” ce/mm
