Zurich – The start-up Apheros, which specializes in cooling electronics, has secured 1.6 million Swiss francs in a pre-seed financing round led by Founderful. Apheros has developed metal foams with special cooling properties.
The Zurich-based start-up Apheros has closed a pre-seed financing round of 1.6 million Swiss francs led by Founderful, according to a press release. The money from the Zurich-based venture capitalist is intended to accelerate the development and deployment of Apheros' metal foam-based cooling solutions.
Apheros, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), has developed a new production method for metal foams with exceptional cooling properties. According to the start-up, Apheros metal foams are ideal for high-performance cooling applications and can be easily integrated into existing cooling systems. The products reduce energy consumption and cooling costs.
"There is an urgent need for more efficient cooling solutions," Gaëlle Andreatta, co-founder and CTO of Apheros, is quoted as saying: "The development of artificial intelligence is driving up the energy consumption of data centers exponentially, and inefficient cooling is the main culprit. Our unique metal foams have excellent heat exchange and fluid transport properties, especially in liquid and two-phase cooling."
"Our technology has the potential to set new industry standards and significantly reduce the environmental impact of cooling solutions worldwide," says Julia Carpenter, co-founder and CEO of Apheros.
Carpenter was named one of the ten most important female founders in Switzerland for her invention of Apheros' innovative metal foam production process. According to the press release, CTO Andreatta has 16 years of experience in research and development, technology transfer and start-up development. ce/gba
