Zurich – Balgrist University Hospital has set up an Institute for Golf Medicine. Here, medical specialists work together with sports scientists and golf coaches. The Balgrist Golf Institute aims to improve individual golf health and the sport of golf.

(CONNECT) Balgrist University Hospital opened its new Balgrist Golf Institute on July 8. Here, specialist medical staff work together with sports scientists and golf coaches, the clinic explains in a press release. With the new institute, Balgrist wants to contribute to individual golf health and to improving the sport of golf.

At the Balgrist Golf Institute, medical expertise is combined with targeted training and state-of-the-art research. In golf-related research, for example, biomechanical stresses are to be investigated and age-appropriate training approaches tested. "Today's golf medicine is hardly evidence-based," Mazda Farshad, initiator of the institute and medical hospital director, is quoted as saying in the press release. "Balgrist University Hospital, as a highly specialised competence center for the musculoskeletal system, can contribute to the golf medicine of the future not only clinically, but also as a scientific epicenter."

The Balgrist Golf Institute is open to recreational and ambitious golfers as well as professionals. Specific complaints or appropriate preventive measures can be clarified in a golf consultation. The institute wants to use systematic research into the causes of common complaints in golf for prevention and to optimise performance. ce/hs
