Opfikon ZH – Baxter has presented its new Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat RT, a collagen pad that can be used at room temperature, at a symposium in Vienna. The pad supports hemostasis and sealing during minimally invasive surgical procedures.
(CONNECT) Baxter presented the Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat Room Temperature (RT) collagen pad at a symposium in Vienna, replacing the Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat previously offered, according to a press release. The American medical technology company from Deerfield in the state of Illinois is based in Opfikon with Baxter AG.
The Hemopatch Sealing Hemostats are collagen hemotase pads whose tissue application reduces post-operative complications compared to standard treatment. The Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat reduces post-operative pancreatic fistulas and cerebrospinal fluid leaks and therefore avoids transfusions in cardiac surgery. The electrophilic cross-linking effect of the patch adheres quickly to treated tissue and supports the tissue mechanically.
The advantage of the newly presented room temperature patch lies in its improved storage and extended shelf life. Unlike previous Hemopatch Sealing Hemostats, the RT model can be stored at temperatures from 2 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius and does not require extensive cooling. In addition, the Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat RT has a longer shelf life of up to 36 months.
"I first used the Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat for experimental tests. Since then I have been using it every day because of its unique sealing capabilities, especially in laparoscopic surgery. The elimination of the need for cooling and the extended shelf life are key improvements that ensure it is available in the OR when it matters most," said Selman Uranüs, Professor of General Surgery at the Medical University of Graz and early user of the RT model, at the symposium. ce/yes
