Climate Fund Stadtwerk Winterthur Awards Grants

Winterthur – The Stadtwerk Winterthur climate fund has awarded CHF 70,000 in funding for regional projects on climate protection, energy efficiency and CO2 reduction. This year’s beneficiaries are Next Gas GmbH from Kloten ZH, the Soily association from Winterthur and the start-up SimpleTrain from Wallisellen ZH.

(CONNECT) The Stadtwerk Winterthur climate fund is awarding 70,000 Swiss francs for environmentally friendly projects this year, according to a press release. The Climate Fund has been promoting projects on climate protection, energy efficiency and CO2 reduction since 2007.

Next Gas GmbH, based in Kloten, will receive a sum of 30,000 Swiss francs. It develops biogas reactors for small and medium-sized farms. The potential of liquid manure is used to generate decentralized heat and electricity. The funding will be used for a pilot project in which Next Gas' fermentation process will be tested during ongoing operations.

A pilot project of the Soily association is being supported with CHF 20,000. A special compost with an ideal mixture of microorganisms is being tested at farms in the Winterthur region. A trial field of 50 square meters will be set up first.

SimpleTrain GmbH, based in Wallisellen, offers an online platform for international rail travel. The expanded platform should also enable bookings for routes that have not yet been connected. With the support of Klimafonds Stadtwerk Winterthur, specific routes such as the one from Winterthur to Barcelona via Lyon are offered. SimpleTrain will also receive a grant of CHF 20,000 for the project.

The fund is financed, among other things, by voluntary contributions from electricity customers amounting to 2 centimes per kilowatt hour purchased. For an average household of four, this means an amount of CHF 8 per month, according to the press release. ce/ww
