ETH joins forces with MAN Energy Solutions for energy research

Zurich – The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and MAN Energy Solutions Switzerland have entered into a partnership for joint energy research. Funding will be provided for projects to develop energy system models supported by artificial intelligence (AI).

(CONNECT) The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and MAN Energy Solutions Switzerland, also based in Zurich, have agreed on a joint funding program for energy research. According to a press release, the projects will focus on the development of AI-supported energy system models. The aim is to develop solutions for the integration of electricity, heating and cooling networks.

With its AI Center, ETH will play a central role in the cooperation in the development of practical energy strategies. MAN Energy Solutions contributes its expertise in technology solutions, particularly in the field of large industrial heat pumps and electrothermal energy storage systems. In the area of research, six postdoctoral positions are to be funded.

"For an effective transfer of research results into practice, ETH depends on the market proximity of its industrial partners," said Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, in the press release. "This collaboration with MAN Energy Solutions is an important step in developing innovative solutions for the future of energy."

Patrik Meli, Managing Director of MAN Energy Solutions Switzerland, is delighted with the collaboration with ETH. Artificial intelligence would provide "valuable tools" to pave the way for technological innovations and better understand the interrelationships of energy systems. ce/ww
