Ferag's distribution center for Fnac in Portugal significantly increases productivity

Hinwil ZH/Lisbon/Ivry-sur-Seine – The omnichannel distribution center built by Ferag for the retail chain Fnac in Portugal significantly increases operational efficiency. A year and a half after Ferag’s intralogistics solution went live, both companies are talking about tangible benefits.

(CONNECT) One and a half years after the commissioning of Fnac 's omnichannel distribution center in Lisbon, Ferag draws a positive balance. The intralogistics solution built by the Hinwil-based manufacturer of material handling systems as general contractor and commissioned in September 2023 has produced "remarkable results", according to a Ferag report.

"With a focus on intelligent integration of manual and semi-automated zones, Ferag has overcome operational challenges and delivered tangible benefits in terms of efficiency, space utilization and scalability," Tiago Figueirôa is quoted as saying. He is e-commerce, supply chain and logistics director at Fnac Portugal, a national subsidiary of the French-based, pan-European entertainment products chain.

According to Ferag, the new distribution center also brings "numerous advantages". Productivity has increased exponentially. As an example, the intralogistics specialist cites the fact that the labeling process achieved five times the efficiency of previous methods. The use of the shuttle buffer has optimized the use of space. And the modular design ensures seamless future expansion.

"We have enabled Fnac to achieve new levels of efficiency and performance in its omnichannel distribution operations and set a new standard for retail logistics," summarizes Alberto Mateos Sánchez, Ferag's Sales & Customer Service Manager. The Lisbon logistics center was Ferag's second order from Fnac after a project in Madrid. mm/ce
