Zurich – irmos technologies AG, BLS AG and Marmota Engineering AG are jointly monitoring a single-track steel railroad bridge. Algorithms analyze the behavior of the bridge under different operating loads. The aim is to safely extend the service life of the bridge.
(CONNECT) irmos Technologies AG, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH), Marmota Engineering AG, also based in Technopark Zurich, and BLS AG from Bern are working together on the continuous monitoring of a steel railroad bridge in Switzerland. With the help of a sensor network, algorithms developed by irmos analyze the bridge's reactions to various loads. The algorithms thus provide insights into the structural integrity and weight load of freight trains.
According to a press release, the project makes it possible to assess the actual condition of the bridge and its fatigue progress. The aim is to use this data to safely extend the service life of the bridge. According to the press release, the campaign complements regular condition assessments and serves as a reference for the assessment of similar bridges.
The ETH spin-off irmos Technologies AG offers data-based monitoring of critical infrastructure and buildings. The company's proprietary algorithms provide insights into the remaining useful life of objects without the need to interrupt operations.
The railroad company BLS AG is active in passenger and freight transportation. ce/yes
