Baden AG/Schlieren ZH – Baden Cantonal Hospital (KSB) uses reusable ZippBags to store patient belongings. These have been developed by Zippsafe AG from Schlieren.
(CONNECT) Baden Cantonal Hospital (KSB) wants to ban plastic bags from everyday clinical practice. It has opted for ZippBags from the Schlieren-based start-up Zippsafe and, according to a press release, has successfully tested the first 800 of these reusable bags during operations.
KSB CEO Pascal Cotrotzo is quoted as saying that a storage option was required that would accompany hospital patients "from admission to discharge - safely, practically and sustainably". The Zippsafe solution is attached directly to the bed. From there, the patient can take them to the operating theater themselves. In contrast to plastic bags, plastic boxes and roller cabinets, patients would have their personal belongings with them and would no longer have to wait up to 30 minutes for them to be returned.
There are also advantages for hospital staff: In care and logistics, transportation routes and documentation costs are reduced. This leaves more time for patient care. Another problem concerns the loss of patient property. There had been repeated losses and goodwill payments at various hospitals, which were "largely avoided" by using ZippBags. By using the ZippSafe app, the location of patient property is documented and traceable.
After a loss-free test phase, nursing director Michèle Schmid speaks of a "new standard for handling patient property". "Efficiency, safety and sustainability can be perfectly combined - and that is exactly what is needed in the healthcare sector," she is quoted as saying.
A study by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) confirms the advantages of the surgical bags, which can also be adopted by other hospitals and clinics, according to the report. ce/heg
