Launch of Innovation Zurich

On May 5, 2022, the Division of Business and Economic Development, together with the Greater Zurich Area and the Innovation Park Zurich, launched “Innovation Zurich”, the platform for networking, orientation and news about innovation.

The event was opened by Government Councillor Carmen Walker Späh, who welcomed the high-calibre audience - stakeholders from the innovation sector, representatives of Zurich's universities and representatives of innovative start-ups - to the Innovation Park in Dübendorf for the launch of Innovation Zurich.

Gregory Hitz, founder of Sevensense, provided exciting insights into the young company. Sevensense's technology enables robots to navigate safely and autonomously in dynamic spaces, both indoors and outdoors. Sevensense's core technology is based on computer vision and AI techniques derived from over 15 years of research at ETH Zurich.

Philippe Monnier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WayRay, then explained how the company found its way to Zurich. WayRay is developing a self-driving car with directly integrated True AR content. Passengers experience the metaverse during the journey, a realistic virtual environment that is only possible with WayRay's deep reality display technology.

The two speakers were followed by an interview with Fabian Streiff, Head of Location Promotion, who presented the newly launched Innovation Zurich platform, which aims to provide orientation and strengthen networking across industries. He also presented the new strategic priorities of location promotion.

The event concluded with a discussion on the topic of "How can networking and collaboration lead to innovation?" with Elisabeth Stark (UZH), Carolin Holland (SAAM), Thomas Ackermann (SICTIC), Gregory Hitz and Fabian Streiff, focusing on success stories, experiences and expectations.

Afterwards, guests were able to network at the networking aperitif and test demos from the areas of smart systems and digital health. There were exciting innovations and innovative projects to marvel at from KYBURZ Switzerland AG, ddrobotec, Limbic Life, ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences and the "Highland Lynxes" robotics team from the Zurich Oberland.
