Winterthur/Obidos/Lisbon – Medyria has received CHF 1.5 million in fresh capital from the Portuguese venture capital fund Buenavista and others. The medtech company from Winterthur hopes that this will bring its microcatheters for measuring blood flow in the coronary arteries closer to approval and market launch.
(CONNECT) Medyria has closed a financing round with 1.5 million Swiss francs. It was led by the Lisbon-based Portuguese subsidiary of the Madrid-based venture capital fund Buenavista. According to a press release, the existing investors have also participated.
According to the statement, this "significant investment" will drive Medyria's PyCath project forward and marks a decisive moment for the growth of the medical technology company based in Technopark Winterthur. Medyria is developing the next generation of microcatheters for invasive cardiac diagnosis under the brand name PyCath. In it, IP-protected sensors measure the speed of blood flow in the coronary vessels, which is an important indicator of key parameters such as pressure in the aorta and microvascular resistance.
The fresh capital will reportedly be used to initiate the first clinical trials on humans. They are intended to validate the effectiveness and safety of the system under real conditions. In addition, "a substantial part" of the investment went towards preparing and submitting the application for approval to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "This funding is critical for us to advance our clinical development and regulatory efforts, bringing us one step closer to a transformative solution for patients and healthcare providers worldwide," Medyria CEO Mauro M. Sette is quoted as saying.
In connection with this financing, Medyria also announces the establishment of Medyria Atlantic, based in the Portuguese city of Obidos. The subsidiary will act as a strategic hub, oversee clinical activities, lead commercial development across Europe and manage a significant portion of PyCath production and ongoing research and development. ce/mm
