New Gurit Plant Supplies Structural Foam Cores for Marine Applications

Zurich – Gurit has signed a multi-year contract for the supply of Corecell structural foam cores for the subsea industry. Sales should be in the low to mid double-digit million Swiss franc range within five years. Gurit is building a new plant in Australia for this purpose.

(CONNECT) Gurit is significantly expanding its activities in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Australia. The basis for this is a multi-year contract that the specialist for composite materials has now concluded, according to a press release. Within this framework, the supply of Corecell structural foam cores for the underwater industry is expected to generate sales in the low to mid double-digit million Swiss franc range within five years.

This will enable Gurit to further expand its activities in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Australia. In order to fulfill this contract, the company is planning to open a new production facility there. It is expected to be located near Brisbane and will also be the new location for the existing distribution facility. Gurit describes Corecell as a market-leading, high-performance structural core material based on styrene acrylonitrile resin (SAN), which was developed by Gurit in the 1980s and has since undergone numerous improvements.

"This major order is an important step in Gurit's ongoing strategic realignment and accelerates our transformation into a dynamic, multi-market company," said Lance Hill, General Manager for Marine and Industrial Applications at Gurit. "This long-term partnership underscores our commitment to diversifying beyond traditional markets by leveraging our expertise in advanced composite solutions to open up new opportunities in various industries." ce/mm
