The biotech company GlycoEra AG, based in the “grow cluster” start-up center in Wädenswil, has received a financial injection of 130 million US dollars. The money is intended to accelerate the development of new drugs against autoimmune diseases.
GlycoEra AG, which is also represented in the USA, is working on drugs that are designed to specifically break down harmful proteins in the bodies of patients with autoimmune diseases. The current financing round, led by Novo Holdings and supported by other investors, will enable the company to bring its most promising drug, appropriately named GE8820 - a reference to the Wädenswil zip code - into the clinical trial phase.
Preliminary studies have shown that GE8820 can effectively reduce the disease-causing proteins. Dominique N. Sirena, co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of GlycoEra, is delighted with the support: “Thanks to our investors, we are able to bring our product candidate GE8820 into the clinical phase and clinically validate the promising preclinical data. The degradation of IgG4 with our protein degradation product enables new therapeutic approaches for patients with autoimmune diseases due to its specific, rapid and profound effect.”
