Post Sanela Health takes over electronic patient files in Ticino

Zurich – Swiss Post Sanela Health AG will operate the electronic patient dossier (EPD) in the canton of Ticino from January 1, 2025. According to Swiss Post, this promotes the dissemination of the EPD at local level and also leads to greater efficiency and uniformity at national level.

Post Sanela Health AG now operates the master community of the electronic patient dossier in the canton of Ticino. This was decided by the State Council with a view to greater efficiency and economic sustainability, according to a statement from Sanela's parent company, Swiss Post.

Since 2016, the eHealth Ticino association has operated the Ticino parent community on behalf of the State Council, using Swiss Post's EPD platform. The commissioning of Post Sanela Health promotes the dissemination of the EPD at local level and also leads to greater efficiency and uniformity at national level, according to the Swiss Post. Post Sanela Health, which is based at Technopark Zurich, already works with around 1,300 healthcare facilities and is the largest parent company in Switzerland.

According to the information provided, the EPD holds out the prospect of numerous benefits, including better coordination and a higher quality of treatment. Patients could store and check their health documents themselves. In addition, efficiency gains would have a positive impact on healthcare costs.

The transition from eHealth Ticino to Post Sanela Health should be seamless. Holders of an EPD from eHealth Ticino are already informed. The association will accompany the introduction of the EPD and ensure the involvement of all partners in Ticino. The cooperation of all the institutions involved should guarantee a smooth transition for the population and healthcare professionals. ce/mm
