RTDT receives funding of 4 million dollars

Zurich – RTDT has raised 4 million dollars for its Aerosense system in a pre-seed financing round. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich develops intelligent patches for the rotors of wind turbines.

(CONNECT) RTDT's smart patches for wind turbine rotors have attracted a $4 million investment. According to a report by RTDT, the investors in the early financing round include the Dutch venture capital firm Rockstart and its Swiss counterparts Swisscom Ventures, Backbone Ventures and Kickfund. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, which is based in Technopark Zurich, would like to thank the City of Zurich for its support in its KlimUp funding program.

"The investment will be used to accelerate RTDT's growth in key areas, including expanding the team, scaling production of the Aerosense system and software development," Aris Mukherjee, COO and co-founder of RTDT, is quoted as saying in an article by startupticker.ch. "We also plan to intensify our collaboration with our existing customers and expand our commercial activities."

RTDT's rotor patches measure and transmit site-specific aerodynamic and structural parameters in real time. With this information, manufacturers can optimize their wind turbines in terms of design, control, structure and aerodynamics. This should increase the production of electricity and reduce the use of materials by 5 to 10 percent.

Such a patch also provides valuable information during operation: "Similar to an Apple Watch or a fitness tracker, it provides information about the physical condition of the rotor blade at all times," explains CEO Imad Abdallah in a report by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH). The Aerosense system will undergo a practical test at an Austrian wind farm by the end of the year. ce/mm
