University of Gothenburg relies on technology from Biognosys

Schlieren ZH/Gothenburg – Biognosys has equipped a laboratory at the University of Gothenburg with its new P2 technology for plasma enrichment. The Swedish laboratory specializes in mass spectrometry-based proteomics.

(CONNECT) The Schlieren-based biotech company Biognosys has fully equipped the first laboratory in Europe with its P2 plasma enrichment system, according to a press release. It was installed at the Proteomics Core Facility at the University of Gothenburg. This is an important step in facilitating access to Biognosys' P2 technology, enabling researchers to perform deeper, high-throughput plasma protein profiling and pushing the boundaries of biomarker discovery and translational research, it added.

Presented at the American Society of Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) annual conference in the summer of 2024, the proprietary P2 plasma enrichment method utilizes a novel single-particle process to achieve unbiased, in-depth mass spectrometry-based plasma proteomics.

"The P2 platform enables comprehensive, unbiased discovery of proteins at a cost-effective price for users," says Carina Sihlbom Wallem, Head of Department at the Proteomics Core Facility at the University of Gothenburg. The aim of her laboratory is always to detect as many proteins as possible. Many disease-relevant biomarkers remain elusive due to their low abundance, which is why it is important to increase the number of quantifiable circulating proteins.

"Our samples were first analyzed at Biognosys, followed by an on-site visit by the project manager," says the head of department, explaining the role of the Biognosys implementation team. The same samples were then processed and analyzed in the Swedish university's own facilities under the direction of the implementation team.

Biognosys is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and is based in the Bio-Technopark Schlieren-Zurich. ce/gba
