UZH and ETH Present Programme for Scientifica

(CONNECT) The programme for Scientifica 2026 is now available online. From August 22 to 30, approximately 1,000 researchers will offer insights into their work through a variety of event formats. This year, Switzerland's largest science festival is exploring the question of how scientific knowledge is generated and why research must be transparent and verifiable.

The event kicks off on August 22 with a public open house held in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (Empa) at Innovation Park Zurich in Dübendorf. The programme includes, among other things, race cars, rocket engines, and autonomous drones. The following day, UZH's Irchel Campus and ETH's Hönggerberg Campus will open their doors. Among other things, visitors can pilot a lunar lander, gain insights into quantum physics, or learn about forest and climate research.

As a partner of Scientifica, the City of Zurich is organizing the "Science and the City" event series from August 24 to 28. The range of topics extends from virtual reality to weight-loss injections and dementia, all the way to money and wastewater treatment. Free online registration is required for the events; registration opens on August 17.

The Scientifica will conclude on 29th and August 30: Events at the UZH and ETH campuses. At around 80 exhibition booths, scientists will present their current projects from all research areas at the two universities. Workshops, shows, science cafés, and tours of laboratories and other workspaces that are not normally open to the public round out the program.

Scientifica has been organized by UZH and ETH Zurich since 2011 and is aimed at adults, families, and young people alike. Admission is free. For workshops, guided tours, and shows with limited seating, free tickets will be distributed on-site one hour before the start of each event during the two festival weekends. ce/as
