Attikon ZH – Wegmüller AG has built special packaging with a floating floor for the Atlantic crossing of the sensitive model of a marine diesel engine. The shipment from the Diesel Motoren Winterthur association thus arrived safely at the University of Maryland.
(CONNECT) The replica of one of the largest container ship engines of the Sulzer/Wärtsilädesign line has started its journey across the Atlantic to the USA in a specially built package from Wegmüller AG. The forwarding of this model of the marine diesel engine 8RT-flex96C-B was commissioned by the Diesel Motoren Winterthur association, according to a press release. The destination was the University of Maryland. This model is now part of a permanent exhibition there and serves as an illustrative teaching aid for future engineers.
Wegmüller had developed special packaging for the several weeks of land and sea transportation of this sensitive consignment, which weighed around 300 kilograms. Its floating floor absorbed vibrations and protected the model from shocks and jolts. Precisely cut wooden strips fixed the exhibit at all critical points.
"It was an exciting task for us to develop packaging that reliably protects the sensitive details of the model," says Managing Director Marc Wegmüller. "Thanks to our many years of experience with individual special solutions, we were able to master this challenge without any problems."
Marc Wegmüller is the fourth generation of his family to manage Switzerland's wood and cardboard packaging manufacturer. The company employs around 100 people at its headquarters in Attikon. ce/mm
