Zurich – The Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft (ZSG) inaugurated the all-electric EMS Uetliberg on July 28. Following a ten-month refurbishment, the ship has been sailing daily on the small lake tour since August 1, 2025. More electric ships are to follow.
(CONNECT) The EMS Uetliberg of the Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft (ZSG) made its inaugural voyage on Lake Zurich on July 28. The ship, formerly the MS Uetliberg, is now fully electric following a ten-month conversion at the ZSG shipyard in Zurich-Wollishofen. According to a press release, EMS Uetliberg also has the largest marine battery unit in Europe. 7200 battery cells with an output of 3550 kilowatt hours save 113,000 liters of diesel and 300 tons of CO2 per year.
The sister ships MS Albis and MS Pfannenstiel will complete the all-electric ZSG fleet by 2027 following conversions. This currently consists of the EMS Uetliberg and the three E-Limmat boats, which have been in operation since March 2023. The conversions demonstrate ZSG's commitment to sustainability. The EMS Uetliberg has been operating daily on the small lake cruise on Lake Zurich since August 1.
ZSG operates a fleet of 17 ships and transports around 1.7 million passengers a year on Lake Zurich. ce/yes
